July in Albuquerque

Albuquerque in July hits different. The heat settles in hard, the sky stays that impossible shade of blue, and the whole city seems to slow down just enough to actually enjoy itself. This is when locals know to start their days early, chase the shade, and plan their adventures around the cooler parts of the evening. It's the kind of month where you remember why you love living here, or why you should visit.

The good news is there's plenty happening to keep you entertained, whether you're looking to get outside, catch some live music, explore what makes this place tick, or just find a reason to get out of the house when the sun finally dips below the horizon. Below, we've rounded up the stuff actually worth your time this July.

Happening this month

July's got plenty going on around Albuquerque if you're looking to get out. Start the month with Old Town Walking Tours at the Albuquerque Museum on July 2, then catch some comedy at Hyena's Comedy Nightclub with Michael Quu on both July 3 and 4. If you want something lower key, Gentle Flow Yoga is happening at Barelas Community Center on July 3, or swing by Family Art Workshops at the Albuquerque Museum on July 4. For live music, Tobehonest is playing Effex NightClub that same night.

Sports fans should mark July 5 for New Mexico United vs Oakland Roots SC at Rio Grande Credit Union Field at Isotopes Park, and if you're more of a morning person, Free Sunday Mornings at Albuquerque Museum kicks off that day too.

Places worth a visit, any week

If you're looking to eat well around Albuquerque, you've got solid options scattered throughout the area. Naan & Dosa, Perea's New Mexican Restaurant, Monroe's, Naka Sushi, and Scarpas all pull people in for different reasons. When you need to stock up on groceries or supplies, Stadium Super Market, Albertsons, Kirtland Commissary, Sprouts Farmers Market, and Whole Foods Market are the places locals actually go to.

Getting outside in July means finding spots that work in the heat. Fred Calkins Park, Vail Park, Sister Cities Park, Summer Hills Park, and Pershing Park all give you room to move around and breathe. If you want to spend time indoors or checking out what the area has to offer culturally, Weems Art Gallery, H. B.

Before you go

So get out there and soak up what July has to offer. Whether you're catching a show downtown, hiking up in the foothills, or just grabbing green chile at your favorite spot, this is the time to really experience what makes Albuquerque special. The summer heat is real, but there's something about exploring the city when you're actually living here that beats any guidebook.
